Colored glass vase
Vibrant blue vase with a clear foot. Mouth blown glass in very good condition. It used to be very difficult to make colored glass. Only in Venice did the real artists know how to make it. The Venetian glass artists used metal oxides to color glass. Chrome and iron for a green color, cobalt or copper for a blue color and manganese for a purple color. It took a while before the rest of the world knew how to color glass. That was because all the glass furnaces on the island in Venice were guarded. All knowledge about tinting glass therefore remained in Venice and did not come to the mainland. Nowadays you mainly see green wine bottles, brown beer bottles and blue bottles with water in the store. Colored glass is made in the glass factory by mixing different raw materials before the glass is melted in the furnace. You can actually see it as a kind of dye that is added.
