Large Pioni dish, designed by Oiva Toikka for Nuutajärvi (Iittala), Finland. This beautifully designed plate by leading Finnish glass artist Oiva Toikka features the bold, organic lines of a peony (pioni) in a textured relief at the bottom of a smooth, clear glass interior.

The piece is stunning and shimmers from where the light hits it when viewed from the top. It can be used as a beautiful serving dish for cheese, snacks, fruits or any other delight you would like to share. But on its own it is evenly stunning as well.

The dish is in very good vintage condition. There are only a few small traces of use at the bottom but no chips, cracks or deep scratches

Oiva Toikka (1931-2019) is one of the world's leading glass artists whose imaginative and bold art departs from the common streamlined aesthetic of Scandinavian design.

The Pioni series was taken into production in Finland in 1975 by Nuutajärvi, which merged with Iittala in 1988. During the first two decades it was produced by Nuutajärvi and later by Iittala. Production stopped in 2001.
