Pottery vase by Nel Goedhart
Nel Goedhart was born in Leiderdorp in 1937. She comes from a family with four children, of whom she is the youngest. Her father was a milkman. Nel Goedhart worked as a potter at Pieter Groeneveldt in Voorschoten. Groeneveldt is one of the first employers to hire women as potters. There are five women working at the company. Quote Groeneveldt: "Pottery making not only requires skill, but it is also a matter of creativity and feeling." Nel Goedhart works for Zaalberg from 1957 to 1960. Nel has been working for herself since 1961. She established her studio behind Café-Restaurant Piet Gijs in Noordwijkerhout. In addition to her own production, she also gives lessons to young potters. She gives these lessons in the Koetshuis at Achthovenerweg 2 A. Nel Goedhart dies at the age of 38 in Leiden.
Work by Nel Goedhart usually has the name stamped in full, just like the signature in this little vase.
